British Columbia is heating up along with the rest of the world. In 1994
Environment Canada predicted that by 2050, coastal BC would be 4
degrees C warmer on average in the winter and 2.5 degrees C warmer
in summer. A new BC government report documents warming trends over
the last century and agrees that these trends will speed up over the
next century. And Climate Change isn't just another part of nature.
It's the product of human activities producing greenhouse gases that
cloak our atmosphere.
The experts agree that if no action is taken to reduce human
generated global warming, BC will face potentially catastrophic
climate and ecological changes that will dramatically alter the way
we live as well as the environment we live in.
Canada and the Kyoto Protocol
West Coast's climate change program
supports efforts in BC, across Canada and around the world to slow
down and even reduce global warming trends. West Coast's focus is
development of effective international rules to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the ratification and effective implementation of the Kyoto Protocol in Canada.
West Coast has taken a lead in ensuring that emissions trading and
credits for greenhouse gas reductions do not undermine Canada's commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
